Raise awareness of safety at schooling facilities while supporting young riders who are following their passion.
On July 11, 2019, Ashley Stout and Avant Garde both passed away after a rotational fall while attending a Pony Club function and preparing for the NAYC. Ashley was just 13 years old, yet had accomplished a great deal. Ashley began riding regularly at the age of 5. She rarely missed a lesson, even when it was bitterly cold or steaming hot outside. She simply loved horses, her barn family, and all things equestrian. At 11 years of age, Ashley took first at the Beginner Novice U14 level at the American Eventing Championships. Ashley was an avid Pony Clubber and had reached level C2. At the time of her accident, she was 2nd on the U.S.E.A. leaderboard for training level young riders. Ashley's favorite part of eventing was dressage and had just started competing in the IEA. Ashley had various first place finishes at the 2019 IEA dressage National Finale.
Ashley made it her mission to build up those around her, even when she was competing directly with them. She made everyone around her better. We are still working on fully developing the #ride4Ashley mission. Such a short time has passed since Ashley's accident, that we haven't yet fully defined how we will honor her passion for equestrian eventing, her determination, and her genuine kindness towards others. She was an inspiration to so many who's lives she touched and she deserves to continue to make a difference. That's now on us, her family, her supporters, her friends, and the equestrian community.. Together, we will keep her memory alive and will make sure she continues to help others who share her passion for life and her passion for equestrian..
Here are some ideas we are continuing to mold:
1. An annual college scholarship awarded in Ashley's name to an eventing Junior rider
2. Annual cash awards to multiple schooling facilities to assist with safety upgrades to cross country jumps
3. Ashley's rotational fall occurred on a 2'9" table; a height that most don't consider high enough to cause a rotational fall. We'd like to create / promote a monthly newsletter focused on safety awareness and Best-Practices to promote Safety in Eventing
